Past Predictions of Technology

The filmmakers' vision of the future was very skewed and almost Star Trek-like. First, their vision of the way technology looked was way off. The monitors were bulky and rectangular-shaped. The filmmakers also portrayed the technology to be very quick and real time. We all know Skype and other programs are far from quick and lag badly.

The filmmakers, however, weren't too far off from commercialized communication via common household devices. Devices such as iPads and computers do make that kind of communication available. Although people who have injuries have other forms of communication with the classroom, it is possible for people with disabilities to interact with a classroom in such a manner.

Although we are not there yet, I think someday there will be technology used to make sure anyone and everyone, no matter what the illness or disability is, can interact in a classroom type setting no matter where they are at. I think the future will bring better and more efficient technology to allow these kinds of benefits. However, for this to happen I think we, as teachers of technology, have to teach everyone how to use the technology to make it happen.
