Nike Training Club Workout

When you sign into the app to get your workout you get four different choices to choose from; GET LEAN, GET TONED, GET STRONG, and GET FOCUSED. Once you choose what goal you want, you then get to choose your skill level from three different levels; BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE, and ADVANCED. From there you get seven different exercises you can choose from depending on what type of equipment and time is available. I chose the GET LEAN goal and choose BEGINNER for my exercise. I then chose the FIGHTER FIT workout because there is no equipment required.

I did around twenty different exercises ranging from light jogging to walking lunges. The workout lasted exactly thirty minutes and every exercise was timed for me so I didn't lose track of time. At the end of the work out, time was allotted for stretching. Usually when I work out, I forget to stretch and I feel the effects from it in the morning when I am sore.

This app could be used in my classroom in many ways. One way I could include this in my classroom is, by using it as a log to track my students progress. This app allows you to track the amount of time spent on the different workouts and gives you rewards when certain goals are reached. This could help my students be driven towards meeting goals in the technology world and not only physical rewards.

Realm of Creativity

Like anything, I believe that I should go in with a plan and try to achieve the outcome I want. What I like best about this first chapter is how Dr. Haskell really expounds on writing our visions of our classroom down. I have always gotten mad at myself for having good ideas about a lot of different things but I always forget them! I also took away from the chapter that its not only about you, but the students and family too. For everyone to learn and feel welcome in a learning environment you have to include everyone and have a want for everyone to learn too.

Past Predictions of Technology

The filmmakers' vision of the future was very skewed and almost Star Trek-like. First, their vision of the way technology looked was way off. The monitors were bulky and rectangular-shaped. The filmmakers also portrayed the technology to be very quick and real time. We all know Skype and other programs are far from quick and lag badly.

The filmmakers, however, weren't too far off from commercialized communication via common household devices. Devices such as iPads and computers do make that kind of communication available. Although people who have injuries have other forms of communication with the classroom, it is possible for people with disabilities to interact with a classroom in such a manner.

Although we are not there yet, I think someday there will be technology used to make sure anyone and everyone, no matter what the illness or disability is, can interact in a classroom type setting no matter where they are at. I think the future will bring better and more efficient technology to allow these kinds of benefits. However, for this to happen I think we, as teachers of technology, have to teach everyone how to use the technology to make it happen.

Spreadsheets

Students were taught a little bit about the heart and its functions. They also learned about the different types of exercises and their benefits. Once they finished their activities they were shown how to document their data on a spreadsheet. They took class averages of all their activities then compared the differences between different exercises.

I would change the lesson a little bit to fit the needs of the people that I will be educating in my area by adding more information. The people that I will be educating will be much older and should have more common knowledge than a sixth grader. I would first add more about a diet plan and eating healthy. Once I talked about those benefits I would relate them to the health of the heart. Once I talked about that I would go into exercising and the different types. I like how they documented their heart rates because that gives the student a chance to actually see results.

Reflections of Assistive Technologies

In Josh’s story, a story about an autistic young boy who was initially diagnosed as non-verbal, the AT tool that was highlighted was the Bookworm.  This tool is an interactive learning technology that works for many different books.  It is used by having the reader touch certain keys that read the book out loud, as the reader uses it more and more they begin to catch on and can start to say the phrases of the book before the Bookworm actually reads them.
Before Josh started using this technology he would just randomly flip from page to page, couldn’t read the actual words, didn’t initiate eye contact with the teacher, and couldn’t be productive in a typical preschool environment with other students.  That soon changed after a few weeks using the Bookworm and with the help of his teacher.  Over the course of just a few days Josh was making eye contact as he read, would read the sentences of the book out loud with the Bookworm, and was able to respond to the teachers questions as well as make eye contact.
Eventually Josh was able to go through a book, point at the picture as he was reading the sentence and was even able to do this with a table of other classmates, all without the assistance of the Bookworm.  This just goes to show how with the use of the Assisted Technology Bookworm, Josh was able to pick up on reading very quickly and was now not non-verbal as he was initially diagnosed.  Without the Bookworm technology it is very possible Josh wouldn’t have developed an interest in reading and would have continued to struggle.

This is my third year at BSU. I am an exercise physiology major and I plan to graduate within the next three semesters. I plan to go to grad school when I am done but I have not decided where at yet. I plan to go to PA school.

I envy all of you who plan to teach because patience isn't my strong point. I don't really know what else to say so if you have any questions I would love to answer them. I look forward to this semester with all of you. Good Luck!
